Office Appearance

Your office appearance reflects how much you care about your patients. An office that is more attractive than the average medical office helps make your practice stand out above the competitors. Some physicians do not consider the importance of this. Thus, you have an opportunity to make your practice stand out above some in terms of appearance.

Here are some "musts" and suggestions for improvement.

Musts

  • Always keep your entire office neat and clean. This means your reception area, your staff's office, exam rooms, and your private office. Keep your carpets clean and hard floors tidy and shiny.

  • Make sure your chairs are comfortable.

  • Assess the condition of your chairs. Repair damaged chairs.

  • Keep the walls clean. Repaint if walls are a deterrent rather than attractive.

  • Always keep patient areas at a comfortable temperature.

  • Do not allow staff to eat when patients are present.

Improvements

  • Purchase chairs that are exceptionally comfortable, "cushiony" and relaxing.

  • Make sure waiting patients can easily access staff when they have questions. Small windows are a deterrent and create a cold atmosphere.

  • Have a widescreen TV in reception and place smaller TVs in exam rooms. Stay away from health programming. If many of your patients are sick or unhealthy, consider showing non-violent old comedies. (We recommend old family-oriented TV programs for pediatric practices).  They can help take your patient's attention off how they feel and reduce their worries. Offer captions if many of your patients are older and may have hearing loss.

  • Make sure exam rooms have a place to hang their jackets.

  • Paint your office in warm colors. Hang paintings or beautiful photos of nature.

  • Have quiet relaxing music playing in the background.

  • Add a computer station for patients and a small desk or two if they wish to use a laptop while they are waiting.

We can assess your office's appearance and make suggestions that would help your practice stand out from your competitors in regards to office appearance.
